Loss Fees

Library collections form the material foundation of our services, are vital resources for teaching and research, and are fundamental assets of the university. Therefore, safeguarding the integrity of the collection is the duty of every user. Users must take good care of borrowed materials and keep them safe to prevent loss. If an item is lost, the following compensation procedures apply.

If a borrowed book is lost, the user must settle the compensation or initiate a book replacement pre-approval within the original loan period. Otherwise, overdue fees will be charged in addition to the replacement cost.

Compensation Methods:

1. Replacement with Identical Copy: Provide a new, identical copy (same title, author, publisher, and edition) and pay a ¥5 processing fee.

2. Monetary Compensation: If an identical copy cannot be provided, compensation is calculated based on the publication year, with the compensation date as the benchmark.

    • (1) Chinese books published within the last 5 years: 3 times the original price.
    • (2) Chinese books published 6-10 years ago: 5 times the original price.
    • (3) Chinese books published 11-15 years ago: 8 times the original price.
    • (4) Chinese books published over 15 years ago: 10 times the estimated current value.
    • (5) Multi-volume Chinese sets (sold as a set): If half or fewer volumes are lost, 3 times the full set price; otherwise, 5 times the full set price.
    • (6) Foreign-language books: 1-10 times the original price (converted to RMB), depending on available copies.
    • (7) Chinese periodicals (single issue or bound volume): 3-5 times the annual subscription price for one lost issue. Foreign periodicals: 3-5 times the annual subscription price (converted to RMB).
