Patent Information Services
Leveraging the library's data resource advantages, the Patent Information Service provides comprehensive patent information services for our university's researchers, faculty, students, administrative staff, and external enterprises. These services include patent search, patent novelty search, patent analysis and early warning (industry technology analysis/institutional competitiveness analysis/patent early warning), patent training, and patent consulting. The Southern Medical University Intellectual Property Information Service Center was established on January 23, 2019, operating within the University Library, and has introduced a comprehensive patent intelligence application platform to support these services.
Services Include: Search, Novelty Search, Analysis & Early Warning, Training, Consulting.
1. Patent Search
· Provide patent application and legal status search reports
· Patent data retrieval and export services for specified technical fields
2. Patent Novelty Search
· Provide sci-tech novelty search - patent novelty search services
· Search scope aligns with sci-tech novelty search:
· Research project initiation
· Application for scientific and technological achievement awards
· Appraisal, evaluation, acceptance, and transformation of achievements
· Technical consulting: technology introduction, technology transfer, new product development, and special topic research
3. Patent Analysis & Early Warning
For University Decision-making Departments:
· Patent strength retrieval to support research reward policy formulation
· Patent analysis for disciplinary assessment
· Analysis of institutional valid patents
· Analysis of university's patent portfolio to support major project management decisions
· Patent analysis reports for talent recruitment
· Patent navigation analysis based on key applied research projects and advantageous technologies to support industrialization of university research
For Research Teams:
· Patent analysis in specified fields
For External Enterprises:
· Search for evidence to invalidate competitors' patents
· Patent literature reviews in specified fields to assist in finding technical solutions
4. Patent Training
For Undergraduates and Postgraduates:
· Integrate "Basic Patent Knowledge - Introduction to Chinese and Foreign Patent Resources - Patent Search - Case Analysis" into the "Medical Information Retrieval and Management" course (3 credit hours)
For Researchers:
· Lectures on intellectual property information utilization
· Training on patent database retrieval and utilization
· Formats: regular workshops, scheduled training sessions, embedded in specialized courses
5. Patent Consulting
· Provide answers to basic questions through library online consulting, QQ, telephone, email, and in-person consultations
· Services include: patent resource retrieval, patent legal status queries, patent document downloading
