Established by an Act of the U.S. Congress in 1863, the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) later expanded to include the National Research Council (1916), the National Academy of Engineering (1964), and the Institute of Medicine (1970; now the National Academy of Medicine)—collectively known as the National Academies.
PNAS (ISSN: 0027-8424) is among the world’s most-cited multidisciplinary journals (five-year Impact Factor: 10.62). It is a weekly journal with articles posted online daily (Early Edition). Since its launch in 1914, PNAS has published cutting-edge research reports, reviews and perspectives, scholarly articles, and updates on Academy activities across the biological, physical/natural, and social sciences, with backfiles to 1915.
