The China Academic Digital Associative Library (CADAL) is a national initiative funded by the state and developed as part of the Ministry of Education’s “Project 211.” Led by Zhejiang University in partnership with universities and research institutions at home and abroad, CADAL aggregates and shares a wide range of information resources and related services from academic libraries, information service agencies, and research organizations across China, while selectively introducing and sharing resources from international partners.
After sustained development, CADAL has built a rich, distinctive digital collection and a well-structured, tiered service system. It currently provides online access to more than 2.7 million items across diverse resource types—including ancient books, Republican-era books and periodicals, modern books, foreign-language books, Chinese newspapers, accompanying CD content, theses and dissertations, images, audio/video, local gazetteers, everyday-life materials, Qiaopi (overseas correspondence), and South Manchuria Railway archives—covering disciplines in the natural sciences, engineering, agriculture, medicine, humanities, and social sciences. Users must register before using the service.
