Udacity was founded in February 2012 by Stanford University professor Sebastian Thrun with the goal of promoting mass accessibility to higher education. In April 2016, Udacity entered the Chinese market under the name "优达学城" (Youda Xuecheng).

Users pay a monthly fee to access Nanodegree programs. Upon completion of specific projects, students receive a graduation certificate. Paid users also gain access to career opportunities through the platform.
