Developed by Tsinghua University, XuetangX is China's first MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) platform led by a higher education institution. It serves as the research exchange and results application platform for the Ministry of Education's Online Education Research Center, and also functions as the online education platform for the UNESCO International Centre for Engineering Education (ICEE).

Launched on October 10, 2013, the platform offers online courses to a global audience. As of September 2023, XuetangX hosts high-quality courses from dozens of leading universities worldwide, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Stanford University, MIT, and UC Berkeley. These courses span 15 major disciplines such as computer science, economics and management, entrepreneurship, science, engineering, literature, history, and arts.
